We came here because my significant other loves model trains (and real ones). He is making videos and taking pictures as I write this. He was also given a tour of the behind the scenes when we were here on a Wednesday when it wasn't very crowded. Given this is basically run by volunteers, the Colorado Model Railroad Museum has a pretty sweet setup for both adults and kiddos alike. They even have a working Lego train on a Lego display.

What an absolutely amazing way to spend an afternoon. My partner and I have had this museum on our “places to go” list for a long time now and finally decided to make the trip. So well worth it.
I cannot fully describe with words on a screen the absolute detail in every inch of this place. We felt like kids again exclaiming and pointing out little details to one another for the 2 hours straight we were there.
There are interactive exhibits all over the museum where clicking buttons will make something in the scene happen. I was especially impressed with the forest fire scene with the lights and smoke effects!
From the get-go you are given an optional scavenger hunt and we took it so seriously together lol. My recommendation is you should do the same. It gets you to really enjoy the phenomenally detailed little world they have created.
$15 per adult seemed a bit steep walking in, but I can confidently say I’ve paid much more for way less entertainment. This was so worth the money. I strongly recommend it to anyone in need of a fun afternoon. So much fun! -

This place is incredible. I went on a Saturday and they had alot of volunteers running things. They were explaining all about the models and showing me how they worked. They were very friendly and eager to show you the trains. The models were very detailed and i would highly recommend stopping in to see everything if you are in the area!

Nice layout, lots of history. Mezzanine above layout is nice. Felt like more trains needed to be running. Staff was nice. Could not find the last dinosaur. Models are well done and fun to look out. Kid friendly with lots of stairs and stools for kids to get on to look.

My two boys had a great time visiting today! There are tons of displays that wind through the entire building with so much creative detail! There were also a few hands-on activities they could also do which filled their imagination. A train car they could climb into. And to top it off, a wonderful volunteer named Dan offered us to go “behind the scenes” and see how it all works. We really enjoyed learning how they pick the trains, how the track and lighting works, how to program the engines, and more… what a treat!! Thank you for taking the time to give us 1:1 attention and be able to dive into the experience.
