Honestly this was such a feel good trip. One of my friends is a active supporter and can visit 5 times with 3 guests per year. Which is a steal. So my friend invited me and another one of our friends to go yesterday. It was a HOT July day at 101° so we knew there was a possibility that we wouldnt see many animals. So we showed up at 10am. We were able to see a lot more animals than what we thought. And super greatful all the bears, wolves, and lions were out. We were able to see the sleepy tigers, foxes, and Jaguars. It made me so happy to see them all so relaxed sleeping in the shaded areas or right under the walkway. We forgot our binoculars but we were just happy to see any animals. A lot of volunteers were surprised we where able to see so many animals so we may of been lucky that day. I loved the intro video you first watch before entering the sanctuary. All the volunteers were amazing given the sun and heat of the day. Big shoutout to Robert for spending so much time with my group talking to us about all the animals and answering all our questions and reaching out to us to see the animals. Its a 1.5 mile walkway down and 1.5 back with covered spots on the walkway. The walkway has boxes that describe where the animals were rescued from with little facts about how they care for them and is also covered in metal placards dedicated to peoples loved ones. Their slushies and pretzel bites were amazing at the snack spot at the end of the walkway. And the salad bar and food options at the welcome centers The Lions Den had many vegan/vegetarian options which made me happy to see. The low star reviews do make me sad. Cause if you look through their website they list EVERYTHING on there on what to expect during your visit. They are not a Zoo they are a rescue of hundreds of abused animals. They are not funded federally so they depend on their community to support them and their cause. Im such a fan after this experience. Zoos could learn a lot from TWAS standards of animals first. I will be back in the colder months to experience a more colder day setting. Thank you for everything you do TWAS and big shoutout to all the volunteers that support TWAS ❤️ 🐾

Definitely worth the money to support all of these animals! The employees are so friendly and hard working! The whole time we were there we saw them feeding the animals, taking the trash out, cleaning the place! Definitely a beautiful place to keep!

While the ticket price may seem high, it's worth it for what it goes towards. It was a warm day so the animals were pretty lazy and hiding but there were still great views of them. The employees/volunteers were pleasant and knowledgeable. We are looking forward to going back and taking other family members!

It has long been a dream of mine to come visit this beautiful sanctuary that provided safe refuge for animals once kept in captivity in a horrific roadside Iowa zoo. I also watched the Lions Ark and was thrilled to see the beautiful lions and ligers that came in from South America. The work that the team does at the sanctuary to provide homes for animals that once lived cages is nothing short of incredible to see in person. I hope one day the walkway will extend further over large campus that makes up this sanctuary but until then, I'm still proud to support this amazing sanctuary and I'm looking forward to my next visit!

A very worthy effort to support be the very least with the entry fee. Took my elderly father in a powered scooter could not have b3n easier for home to get to the walkway and enjoy the park. The rubber tile covered walk way even made my walk of the 3 mile round trip much more comfortable. A mid day visit meant most of the animals resting and under shade and trees. Still worth it all. Great ice cream to finish up the visit.
