OMG...the pie! 😂 Seriously, we couldn't leave Black Bear Diner without trying a slice, so we went with the Coconut Cream Pie. It was packed with coconut flavor, had an incredibly smooth, creamy texture, and was the perfect way to finish our meal.
For lunch, I had the Triple Decker Turkey Club, and it was excellent. The turkey was fresh, the bacon was crispy, and everything came together on perfectly toasted bread for a classic diner sandwich done right.
Milady ordered the Tri-Tip Dip Deluxe Style, and it was outstanding. The tri-tip was cooked perfectly-tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It paired perfectly with the au jus and made for a hearty, satisfying meal.
From the friendly service to the generous portions and delicious food, Black Bear Diner delivered another great dining experience. If you're stopping by, don't skip the pie-you'll thank me later! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I don’t usually leave a negative review after just one bad experience. Unfortunately, after giving this location a second chance, I can confidently say both visits have been disappointing.

My in-laws live in Colorado Springs, so we’re very familiar with Black Bear Diner and have always enjoyed the food and friendly service there. We were genuinely excited to have a location closer to home, but our experience at the Johnstown restaurant has been the complete opposite of what we’ve come to expect from this chain.

Our experience started with the hostess, who never greeted us, never made eye contact, and very obviously looked like she would rather be anywhere else. As the first impression of the restaurant, it was disappointing and honestly should have been our sign to leave.

Although our drink order was taken promptly, we then waited for more than 40 minutes for our food. The delay caused my husband to be late for work by the time we finally ate and left.

Our first visit, while not perfect, at least had good food. This time was a different story. The gravy on my meal had solidified, making it seem like the plate had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite a while before it was served. Both of our meals were severely under-seasoned and lacked the quality we’ve come to expect from Black Bear Diner. In the end, the toast and jelly were the best part of the meal and what we relied on to leave feeling full.

It’s especially disappointing because we know how good this restaurant can be based on our experiences at other locations. We were really hoping this one would become a regular spot for us, but after two poor visits, we won’t be returning.

First hot meal in 4.5 weeks for this trucker and it did not disappoint one bit! Pretty large portions, clean and friendly. Staff was extremely nice. I didn’t even have time to finish reading the placemat before my food was brought out to me. I ordered “The Grizz”
without pancakes and a hot coffee. Total was $23.

The layout of this restaurant layout is better than when it was Johnson's Corner and the food is as well. The food tasted good and had decent portions. The kids had burgers that looked and tasted good and nice size. Their french fries arent anything special but the the onion rings were good. The wifes Chicken fried steak looked tasted good and cut with a fork. They had a Huckleberry shake on the menu and was good, wished it was a lil more frozen / thicker. The service was not bad, just feel understaffed. Suggestion for them on the Tri Tip Dip, add more meat as the Chibatta bread overwhelms the proportion of the meat.

We went in for a late dinner (830ish), and from the reviews, I was hoping to avoid the "crowded" atmosphere... we did. Aside from our party of 4, there were 3 other tables and 3 or 4 single men at the counter area. It took a while to get our food ordered. Our waitress was friendly enough, but not very good. She did try, though! There was a large gap between our drink order and our food order, and Im not quite sure why. The menu was HUGE... like, way too many options huge. It made it hard to decide, and maybe that's why she gave extra time before taking our order. Once we received our food, she was gone until check time. Which was fine. There were no complaints or issues. The food was pretty good! Each of us ordered from a different facet (breakfast, lunch, sandwich, dinner). They also had "smaller" portions available, which I took advantage of. The portions were very satisfying in size for the men in the group. That's much appreciated because who wants to leave hungry?! For the four of us with drinks, it was $77 before tip. Not terrible, given the quality and portion sizes. Overall, I would say give it a shot. The service isn't gonna be as good as the food, but....
